Today we went over the gustar worksheet before taking the quiz. Students reviewed for a few minutes before taking the interpretive task (putting events of the movie in order and then listening to two sections and describing characters/scene.)

Today after watching Adrian's and Aurelia's videos we practice vocabulary through "Pasa la Palabra".
We then practice with the Voz pasiva, both ser+participio and se pasivo.
We reviewed our notes on Puerto Rico and then held a debate about the future of Puerto Rico, whether it should remain an ELA, become the 51st state, or become an independent country.
We took notes on Estar + participio (which will also be on the vocabulary quiz next class.)

Today we talked about the years/events that probably impacted Mexican immigration to the United States.
Then we split into pairs and took notes on se impersonal y se pasivo. We did practice activities with each.

Finally, we played baseball to review the notes on Puerto Rico.

Today we began our unit on immigration. Students shared what they had written in the Antes de Empezar packet (*this is for a grade so be sure to show Sra. Anderson if you were absent!)
We then looked at where our ancestors came from and plotted it on a world map.
We then watched a video called "30 Days", which shows the perspective for one immigrant family.
Tarea:
1. Create an escudo familiar (link is on Moodle.) This should be done completely in Spanish. Please print it and bring it to class next time.

Today we went through the expectations for the Interpersonal conversation before doing a practice round.
Students were offered the option of taking an interpretive task to add to the proficiency task portion of their grade.
Finally, students worked on a packet asking about family history and thoughts on immigration. (Pick up packet and new vocabulary list for Unit 7).
Tarea:
Complete the packet and write 10 sentences with the new verbs on the last page of the packet. Also, fill in the cognate section.

We started class by talking about the quiz - those with 79% or lower who would like to retake the quiz worked on a remediation packet, while others worked on comparing hotels based on the Cadiz Guide sheets.
We then practiced vocabulary with a drawing/sculpting activity and a two partner activities based on reserving a hotel room.
Finally we looked at reviews based on negative hotel experiences and created a quick skit about how to resolve the problems. We then created sentences based on the situation presented using ESCAPA AAA, MCDEATH, or WEDDING. We will continue with these dialogues next class.

Today students received new vocabulary lists for Unit 6. *Pick up from Sra. Anderson if you were absent!
We also took (brief) notes on the conditional tense. We added them to our future/ESCAPA AAA/MCDEATH folder.
We pinpointed Puerto Rico on a map and then learned about some of the Bizarre foods that can be found there. Students wrote six sentences about what foods they would try, they would prepare, the would order, etc.

Crédito Extra: Prepare a Caribbean dish (from Puerto Rico, Cuba, or la República Dominicana) that is authentic. Bring in a sample for each student in class as well as serving utensils/dishes. Bring the recipe too!
**Also - NEXT WEEK IS WORLD LANGUAGE WEEK! Listen for the SAT Word of the Day each day in Spanish! Write the word of the day down each day (is Spanish) and at the end of the week submit the list with your first and last name so that you will be entered into a drawing for a prize!!!

Today we focused quite a bit on interpretive skills. We read the article from the Cultura packet called "De mi empleo, valoro..." on p. 10. First, we highlighted vocabulary words and words from Cultura p. 12 to infer their meanings. We then made predictions about what we were about to read and then verified whether our predictions were true.
The tarea is to write your own Currículum Vitae. This will be a great stepping stone for the "Proyecto de Vida" project. On your CV include:

tu educación
tu experiencia profesional
tus habilidades
¿Qué te distingue?
tus idiomas
I recommend that you look up a few CV's to use as an example, but DO NOT copy them. Use language and phrases that you KNOW how to say!

We practiced with vocabulary through a 'busqueda'. Then we reviewed affirmative and negative words (handout in class).
We took a survey to find out where our interests are and received a recommendation for the type of job we may want in the future.
We looked at different job ads from Mexico/Spain according to what we learned from the survey and we wrote down what abilities we have to would make us good candidates for those jobs.
Finally, the "Proyecto de la Vida" rubric was handed out and explained. The project will be due February 24.

Then we looked at an infograph that outlines suggestions on how to make yourself a good candidate for a job and create a sound Curriculum Vitae. From the infograph we made our own summary of suggestions and put them in the Tú command form. We then looked at an example of 'what not to do' with a CV.

Today we talked about taking a foreign language at the university level and the benefit of receiving retroactive credits. We 'heard' from some former WHS alumni about their experience at the college level so far and the impact the foreign language has had them so far.
We practiced with the future tense in preparation for our upcoming quiz on Tuesday, February 4.
