el 13 de diciembre

We reviewed vocabulary through and article on Ecoturismo and a 'scavenger hunt' activity. (If you would like more practice with vocabulary you can work on pages 1-3 of the Actividades packet.)

We then reviewed the subjunctive tense formation and the acronyms WEDDING FAC to review the uses of subjunctive.

Finally, we practiced conjugating in the subjunctive tense through page 17 of the Actividades packet.

We reviewed object pronouns quite a bit today. We worked on rewriting sentences, using object pronouns with commands, and answering different questions with object pronouns.

During the last part of class students worked on Cultura Día 5.

We did two quick practice activities to review commands (Ud., Tú, Nosotros and negativos) before taking a quiz on them.

After the quiz we did a quick practice on por/para. We then started learning about direct and indirect pronouns and using double object pronouns in sentences. (Refer to pages 50-55 in the Gramática packet.)

Finally, we started a second practice for the upcoming interpretive task, p. 19 of the Actividades packet.

Today we reviewed the video we watched (Act. p. 17 and 18). We listened to specific parts to recognize what the words meant through context.

We then reviewed Ud./Nosotros/No Nosotros commands with a handout (pick up from Sra. A if you would like extra practice!

We then learned Tú commands (affirmative and negative). Refer to pages 58-59 of the Gramática packet to help you.

We started to review what we have learned so far in the Culture packet (Day 2).

Okay, so after a shortened class (and two more shortened classes coming up) we have some work to do on nosotros commands.

We reviewed notes for nosotros commands and filled in the chart on page 6. We then played a game called golf to work with commands (Ud., Uds., nosotros and negative commands.)

We have a lot to do on Friday! We will review commands again, go over the culture thus far, and begin tú commands.

After talking about what is new, we practiced vocabulary and formal commands with a game of charades.

We reviewed Direct Object Pronouns, Indirect object pronouns, and reflexive pronouns. We then worked on commands with object pronouns and reflexive pronouns.

We learned about proper etiquette when meeting a host family, Cultura p. 1 (Reading Día 2 - on Moodle.)

Finally, we started a practice for a listening interpretive task. Act. 17.

We listened to a short description of someone's house and noted the rooms that we heard. We then identified if the rooms were on the first floor or the second floor of the house.

We then played Lotería in small groups.

We reviewed formal commands and then started learning about the culture involved in living with a host family. (Cultura p. 1)

Today we talked about the pictures in detail before students started the interpersonal task. Then some students volunteered to do their interpersonal. (Those that we did not get to will do their interpersonal on Friday.)

While some students were engaged in the interpersonal assessment (2 students on deck writing while 2 students were speaking) the rest of the students were practicing for their interpersonal, filling out their vocabulary list, or filling out the Lotería boards. (Please pick up the vocabulary list (2 pages) and the Lotería board from Sra. Anderson if you were absent.)

Tarea:

1) Unidad 3: Lista de vocabulario (2 pages - look them up on wordreference.com)
2) Lotería board - Draw pictures on your board of items that you select from En la cocina, El la sala, En el dormitorio, en el cuarto de baño, partes de la casa

Students reviewed the story of El Cucuy by putting the pictures in order and then retelling the story in small groups.

Then students took the Interpretive Task.

We practiced for the Interpersonal task by telling a scary story in small groups.

Finally, we talked about the tradition of Día de los Muertos.

Tarea:
1) Prepare for the Interpersonal task (view pictures on Moodle).
2) Look up the rules for the game Cluedo and write a brief summary on how to play (in Spanish). Be ready to play Cluedo next class!

Today we practiced for the preterit quiz by working on page 13 in the Actividades packet. Students then took the quiz.

After the quiz students finished the book El Cucuy (pages 16-19). Be sure to finish the packet before the Interpretive task on Monday.

We then did a practice for the Interpretive task with the story on page 8 of the Actividades packet. You will also be responsible for knowing about the Cucuy story for the Interpretive task.

Finally, students received the rubric for the Interpersonal task, which will be next Wednesday (November 6).

Tarea:

1) Prepare for the Interpretive Task and Interpersonal task.
2) Bring a picture of or an object that reminds you of someone (or a pet) who has died for our ofrenda.

Today we worked on Cucuy - pages (10-13 and 14-16), Book pages (15-18 and 21-25).

We went through La Familia Sinmiedo preterit activity (Act. p. 18) and Un robo extraño (Act. p. 16). These are excellent activities in preparation for the pret/imp quiz (which has been pushed back to October 31!)

Tarea:
1) Create a story based on the sheet you and your group started during our stations practice last week. 

2) Create a summary of the Cucuy story pages 21-25 and finish the pages 10-16 if you didn't finish them in class.

3) Bring a flashlight to class!

Today after finding out what is new, students practiced speaking in partners, maneuvering between the preterit tense and imperfect tense.

Students then copied the meanings of certain verbs that change between preterit and imperfect (Act. p. 25). They also translated a few sentences using this concept on Act. p. 19.

We learned a little bit about the legend of La Llorona and completed a partner activity where students again had to choose between the preterit and imperfect.

Finally, we reviewed what we have read so far in the book El Cucuy and worked on the pre-reading activities together. Students then read pages 10-13 in the Cucuy book individually and completed page 9 of the Cucuy packet.

Today we practiced before the quiz with a translation activity and a calendar interpretive activity. Then students took the quiz. 

We reviewed the imperfect tense by working on a practice sheet and referencing page 41 in the Gramática packet. Pick up this sheet from me if you are absent. 

Finally, we started our work with the children's book El Cucuy. Pick up a packet if you are absent. The actual Cucuy book must be kept in the classroom so if you miss a day of class you must come in outside of class to make up the work.

Today we worked on a few more translations to get ready for our vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.

We used the vocabulary in context, talking about situations that scare us and more!

We talked about hace expressions. These help us express 'ago' or how long we have been doing something.

FInally, we looked briefly at our cuentos before getting a short introduction to our upcoming reading: El Cucuy.

Today we reviewed more preterit forms: y verbs, -ir stem-changing verbs, and irregular preterit verbs.  We practiced with these verbs with a short 'tableros' practice.

Students then practiced time expressions with a few translation sentences.

Finally, students created a story using verbs in the preterit, new vocabulary, and time expressions.

Today we played piccionario to acquaint ourselves with the nouns of the unit. 

Then we reviewed the formation of preterit - regular endings, -car/-gar/-zar and 4 irregular verbs: dar, ver, ser, ir. 

Finally, we started to talk about attitudes about death and how our culture shapes our perspective.

Today students participated in a panel discussion covering why they want to participate in a study abroad program in preparation for the interpersonal task next Thursday (10/3).

We briefly went over the expectations for the presentational task, which will be next Tuesday (10/1).

We listened to two study abroad participants describe their experiences abroad.

We prepared for the interpersonal task by coming up with questions/areas of focus for our upcoming interpersonal (10/3).

Finally, we briefly went over notes on ser/estar/hay.

Today we practiced adjectives and verbs by creating complex sentences that described pictures while working in small groups.

We looked at Tener posters that students created and voted on the best ones (¡Bien Norma y Alicia L.!)

Then students took the quiz.

Afterward we looked at what a letter to a host family might look like before starting to write to our 'future host families' about our characteristics.  Sra. Anderson checked noun/adjective agreement on what was completed in class.

We started talking about the rubric for the upcoming Interpersonal Task.

Tarea:

Complete p. 10 of the Cultura packet.  Be THOROUGH as you will do this eventually on your letter (Presentational task).

el 19 de septiembre - El día que "las luces desaparecieron".

Today after learning what was new with a few students in class...

We practiced with adjectives by assigning different adjectives to our friends in class.  We then spent time thinking about if our personality changes when we are alone, with friends, or with our family.

We practiced reflexive verbs with an activity on P. 21 of the Actividades packet.  We spent some time talking with each other about who fight with, what we complain about, etc.

Finally, we looked at various signs with tener expressions and wrote a sentence to show comprehension of the vocabulary.

Tarea:
-Moodle 6 (Great quiz practice!)
-Study for QUIZ - all need to know reflexives (and conjugations), adjectives (and adjective agreement), and tener expressions
-Find a picture (or make or draw one) and create a new tener expression poster - make sure the poster portrays the meaning of the expression!

From now on I will be writing the posts in English!  

After talking for a bit about what is new (and learning about Cheba Hut) we worked in small groups to determine why it is beneficial to study abroad along with reasons why it might be worth it to stay with a host family.

We practiced verbs with a crucigrama, crossword puzzle and then an activity called Pancho Carrancho.

Students took a quiz on verb conjugations and then we did a Bingo Humano activity to review reflexive verb meanings.

Tarea: Moodle 5 and look for information about a university (Wisconsin System) program that goes to a Central American or Caribbean country.  Be sure to bookmark that information for next class!

Hoy hicimos investigaciones sobre los nueve países que son de nuestro enfoque este año.  Los estudiantes se dividieron en grupos, hicieron la investigación y compartieron la información.  (Paquete de cultura p. 5-9)

Tomaron una prueba sobre EL MAPA.

Hicimos una práctica de conjugación y entonces tomamos los apuntes en los verbos irregulares y los de -iar/uar.

Hoy hablamos un poco del tema ¿Adónde quieres visitar? con el mapa de Centroamérica y el Caribe.  Luego hicimos un práctica del mapa para nuestra prueba este miércoles.  (¡Sepan los países, cuerpos de agua y las capitales!)

Repasamos los verbos de la unidad y entonces tomamos unos apuntes sobre los verbos de yo-go, shoe, zco, zo y jo.  ¡Ay!  Usamos estos verbos en una práctica en página 3 del paquete de actividades.

Jugamos "Adivina Quien" con compañero, practicando los adjetivos para describir la apariencia física (vocabulario p. 7).

Tarea: Moodle 2 y estudien para la prueba (no se olviden de las actividades en Moodle - la canción y las otras prácticas.)

Hoy practicamos con la concordancia después de hablar un poco con los compañeros.  Vimos la canción "Somos Juventud" y los estudieron pusieron los versos en orden.  Después, encontraron los adjetivos.

Hicimos unas actividades de hablar para practicar con los adjetivos y para conocernos mejor.

Entonces, hablamos de las conjugaciones de los verbos regulares del presente de indicativo, los verbos de cambio radical y los Y Boots.  (Gramática p. 1, 2, 4, 6, 7)
